C.ex Group Tertiary Education Scholarship

In previous years C.ex Group has awarded a tertiary scholarship annually to a student who is a Member or the child of a Member of the C.ex Group, who resides in the local Government areas of Coffs Harbour or Bellingen Shires and who has applied to a University for acceptance in a particular course. Previous recipients have made a distinctive contribution to school, University and/or community life through sporting achievement, community involvement or cultural/artistic achievement.

Applications for the 2025 C.ex Group Tertiary Scholarship will open in November 2024.

C.ex Group Tertiary Education Scholarship Recipients

  • 2015 Recipient - Josette Lewis

    Josette went on to study a Bachelor of Business and Commerce, majoring in Sports Management at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Since completing her degree, she was fortunate enough to work with the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games HR Department in 2018. Shortly after, she moved back to Coffs Harbour to pursue her dream role in the HR Department with Carers NSW where she now looks after the staff across all of NSW.

  • 2016 Recipient - Blake Cutler

    After being awarded the C.ex Group Tertiary Scholarship in 2016, Blake Cutler completed teaching studies and in 2020, he moved to rural NSW for a three-year placement in teaching music. Since completing his teaching studies, he has taught primary school students, undertaken a Graduate Certificate of Educational Research and written media pieces for national publications. Blake’s next goal is to complete a PhD and has recently been accepted into the PhD program at Monash University with two scholarships. This will allow him to undertake his PhD full-time where he can focus on his two areas of interest – the use of research in schools and making schools safer for LGBTIQ students.

  • 2017 Recipient - Euan Willis

  • 2018 Recipient - Vanessa Eagles

    Vanessa Eagles was awarded her C.ex Group Tertiary Scholarship in 2018 where she went on to study a Bachelor of Communication/Bachelor of Arts at the University of Queensland. Since graduating in 2021, Vanessa has worked as an Emergency Services Recovery Project Officer for the Australian Red Cross in the Coffs Harbour and Clarence Valley region. She has most recently been working on the long-term bushfire recovery, preparedness, and resilience of communities that were impacted by the 2019/2020 bushfires.

  • 2019 Recipient - Alexander Hill

  • 2022 Recipient - Alexandra Harrison

    The 2022 recipient for the C.ex Tertiary Education Scholarship was awarded to Alexandra Harrison, of Boambee. Alex is a passionate high jumper and enjoys competing in Heptathlons. She is an Australian National Medalist (2019) and represented NSW in a Heptathlon in early 2021, placing 4th in the Australian Athletics Nationals. Alex has accepted an offer to study Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Sydney in 2022. This will allow her greater access to high jump competitions, continue training with her Sydney-based high jump coach and have access to world-class standard training facilities so she can work towards her dream of representing Australia at the 2032 Olympics.

  • 2023 Recipient - Rachael Eagles

    The 2023 recipient of the C.ex Tertiary Education Scholarship has been awarded to Rachael Eagles of Moonee Beach. Rachael is a stellar student of Coffs Harbour High School and will be continuing her studies at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie. A local teenager, Rachael has been involved in many projects throughout her schooling years, both at school and within the community. She has been involved in her school’s Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, fundraising through bake sales and barbeques and was a Trial HSC and HSC Exam Reader. Outside of school, she has been involved with a variety of projects including RUOK Day, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea with the Cancer Council, WIRES and donating plasma to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. Rachael will be studying for a Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management from February 2023.

  • 2024 Recipient - Jonathan Gilliland

    The 2024 recipient of the C.ex Group Tertiary Education Scholarship is Jonathan Gilliland, from Coffs Harbour Seniors College.

    Jonathan has made significant contributions to performing arts during his secondary schooling in Coffs Harbour including the Coffs Coast Youth Orchestra, Coffs Con Stage Band and the Coffs Harbour City Orchestra where a highlight was their regular performances at Marian Grove Retirement Village bringing joy and excitement to the residents and a sense of communal belonging to himself. Due to his dedication to performing arts, Jonathan was given the opportunity to perform as a soloist at the 2023 Regional Compass Festival and placed First in his HSC class for Music 2 at Coffs Harbour Senior College. Jonathan will pursue a tertiary education at the University of Sydney studying a Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Arts with an ambition to improve communal life in  Australia as a whole.
